Why learn Chinese at Wordculture?
Mandarin is the most spoken language in the world and has already arrived in Zurich. As a global financial hub, Zurich maintains close economic ties with China, and in many companies, knowledge of Chinese is a real competitive advantage.
Those who speak Chinese open up entirely new professional, cultural, and personal horizons. Furthermore, Mandarin is more accessible than its reputation suggests, as there are no articles, no cases, and no verb conjugations.
At Wordculture in the centre of Zurich, you learn Mandarin from A1 to C2 with native-speaking teachers, in small groups and with the flexibility your life in Zurich demands.
We also offer Chinese courses for children.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there also hybrid Chinese courses?
Yes. On request, we also offer hybrid courses that combine in-person and online sessions. All our courses can be booked flexibly. Especially in a busy daily routine and with working from home, business travel and unpredictable appointments — this model ensures that your learning progress doesn’t stall. In the initial consultation, we’ll work out together which combination works best for you.
Do I learn Mandarin or Cantonese at Wordculture?
Lessons at Wordculture are based on Mandarin, the official standard Chinese spoken in China, Taiwan, and Singapore, which is considered the global standard. Cantonese, which is mainly common in Hong Kong, can be addressed upon request.
Is Chinese really as difficult as its reputation?
With the right motivation and ambition, no language is truly harder than another. In Mandarin, the grammar is surprisingly simple, as there are no cases, no verb conjugations, and no articles. The challenge lies more in the tones and the script. However, the first successes come faster than expected with structured lessons from a professional teacher.
I have a busy schedule; how flexible are the courses?
Wordculture offers Chinese courses as standard courses, intensive courses, evening courses, or private lessons, both at the school, hybrid, or online. Our courses adapt to your daily life, not the other way around. Contact us so we can find a format together that works for you.
Is there an official Chinese exam?
Yes. The HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) is the internationally recognised standard exam for Mandarin and is offered at six levels. Wordculture offers preparation courses by arrangement, but the exam itself must be taken at the Asia-Orient Institute of the University of Zurich. This certificate is valid for job applications, university admission and visa applications.
