Bosnian courses in Zurich

Learn Bosnian from A1 to C2

In Zurich, Bosnian is a family language or a language of the heart. At the same time, Bosnian is the key to a region that is increasingly coming into focus both for tourism and business.

At Wordculture, you learn Bosnian with a native-speaking teacher in mini-groups of up to 6 participants, at flexible times that fit your schedule, at our school near Zurich HB or conveniently online. We also offer in-house childcare and family discounts.

Why learn Bosnian at Wordculture?

Our Bosnian courses are for anyone interested: people of Bosnian, Croatian or Serbian heritage who want to strengthen their mother tongue, as well as anyone who maintains professional or personal contacts in the Western Balkans, and travel enthusiasts who want to experience Bosnia and Herzegovina beyond the usual tourist routes.

Bosnian is largely mutually intelligible with Croatian and Serbian. By learning Bosnian, you also gain access to an entire language region with over 20 million speakers.

Official Language Certificate A1–C2

For Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian (BCS), there are currently no internationally standardized language certificates. Student review

My wife is from Sarajevo and I wanted our children to learn Bosnian too. I take private lessons at Wordculture once a week and I’m amazed at how quickly you can build up basic communication. The teacher is patient and friendly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. On request, we also offer hybrid courses that combine in-person and online sessions. All our courses can be booked flexibly. Especially in a busy daily routine and with working from home, business travel and unpredictable appointments — this model ensures that your learning progress doesn’t stall. In the initial consultation, we’ll work out together which combination works best for you.

Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian are linguistically very similar. If you know one of the three languages, you can largely understand the others. The main difference lies in the alphabet and certain expressions: Bosnian and Croatian use the Latin script, while Serbian uses Cyrillic. At Wordculture, we clarify in the initial consultation which variant best matches your goal.

For German speakers without a Slavic background, Bosnian is a real challenge, as it has seven cases and complex verb structures. However, if you already speak Polish, Russian or another Slavic language, you’ll quickly find points of connection. With structured lessons at Wordculture, a bit of diligence and patience, you will reach your goal.

Wordculture offers Bosnian courses as a standard course, intensive course, evening course or private lessons—at the school, hybrid, or online. Our courses fit around your life, not the other way around. Get in touch so we can find a format that works for you.

No. Unlike German or French, there is no internationally standardized certification system for Bosnian. However, on request Wordculture can issue an official course confirmation stating your level.
