German for School Entry in Zurich
In the city of Zurich, the language of instruction from kindergarten onwards is High German, even if Swiss German is spoken on the playground.
For children from foreign-language families, entering primary school is often a major challenge. However, the earlier a child comes into contact with German, the better they will master the German language later on.
During the summer holidays, we also offer a wide range of summer camps for children aged 4 to 15.

Hello, little ones!
Age group: 4-6 years
Children of this age do not learn through textbooks; rather, they learn through experience. That is why the kids in our courses do crafts, paint, sing, and play. Our native-speaking teachers consistently speak German from the very first minute. They hear stories, learn rhymes, and discover the language in everyday situations. In this way, the language takes root in a completely natural way.

1st-3rd Grade
Learning to read and write
Age group: 6-9 Years
From school enrollment, lessons become more structured but remain playful. Children learn to read and write, and systematically build vocabulary and grammar. Thanks to creative projects, motivation for discovering a new language is maintained: creating their own mini-book or a poster about their favorite season, or writing and telling short stories. The lessons are based on pedagogical learning objectives for young language learners.

4th-6th Grade
Become a superhero
Age group: 9-12 Years
Older children learn differently than very young ones. They work on more complex texts, presentations, and discussions. They deepen grammar, expand vocabulary specifically for real-life situations, and promote free speaking. Comics, presentations, and role-playing keep the lessons lively. Those who wish can prepare for the requirements of secondary school or gymnasium.

Gymi preparation German: Individual support on request.
For children aiming to transfer to a long-term gymnasium (after 6th grade) or a short-term gymnasium (after 2nd/3rd year of secondary school), Wordculture offers targeted individual support in German upon request. The central entrance exam (ZAP) requires solid skills in three areas: reading comprehension, language analysis, and writing an original text. The German grade accounts for half of the final score.
Especially for children from multilingual families, this can become a hurdle, even if they speak German well in everyday life. The Gymi exam demands precise grammar, a confident command of written language, and the ability to write a structured essay under time pressure. In our individual lessons, we work specifically on these skills, following the Lehrplan 21 curriculum, using practice materials from previous exams and at the pace your child needs.
Student review
Wordculture was an excellent choice. Our daughter spoke a mix of Swiss German and German. Here, she learned High German with great enthusiasm and already speaks better German than her Swiss friends.
